She insisted on writing her own story

“There’s this friend of mine, that is more like a sister; we grew up together and went to the same schools. Along the line, she finished her secondary school and was about to enter university. She was the last-born in her family, and all her ‘siblings’ were either done with or attending university. When she expressed her interest in pursuing a university education, her parents were reluctant to do so.

So she tried on her own, and due to the zeal she to be university educated. She registered JAMB on her own, and fortunately for her, she passed the JAMB. With her good result, she asked for her parent’s support as she nears her start in university. Instead of supporting her, her dad now suggested that she marries one of his friends so that he can be able to train her.

That suggestion along with other treatments she received really confused her, to the extent that she started wondering if these were indeed her biological parents. So she started asking questions. Eventually, she was told that those were not her biological parents; that her father died while her mother was pregnant, and her mother died giving birth to her. So, her mom’s sister now took her in when she was a day old, and from that day took care of her.

Confused and devastated, and with her aunt and husband still refusing to sponsor her in university, she had no one to turn to. During that time, I was in university, and I managed to give her the little I have so she can at least start. Fortunately, as she started, God did a wonderful miracle; she met someone that took care of everything. The man took care of her, trained her, and got married to her. In fact, right now as I’m talking to you, she’s a medical doctor in London.

That really taught me that one should never lose hope even in times of unimaginable difficulty. Even after getting that sad news at a pivotal point in her life, she picked the courage that she can still be what she wants to be. She insisted on writing her own story, regardless of all the difficulties.”
